Drumroll please...badbabdbadbabdabdabdbadbabdabdbadbadbad...the weightloss is:

6 pounds baby!!

Honestly, I am so freaking proud! Yes, it is the first week, and yes, that is usually a big losing week because of the water factor, etc., but still, it made a huge impact on my confidence and determination. That's all that really matters for me. Up next:

Exercising.

This is such a four letter word for me. I have no idea why I am so scared of it. It won't kill me or even render me useless. I think it's a mind over matter type thing. I just need to get all of the negative out of my head and focus on the benefits of working out.

If I can lose 6 pounds in one week...I can exercise.

Confessions.

Tomorrow is the big day. First week weigh-in. I am nervous. Not sure why. I feel better and that's got to count for something, no matter what the scale says. Still...I really want it to read good news. I think it will give me a huge confidence boost. Speaking of... (or not)

I ate...gulp...3 100 calorie pack cookies all at once last night. Shit. Who freaking does that?? Especially when they are on a "diet?!?!?!" Ugh. I definitely felt bad about myself, but I am not going to let it sabatoge my efforts. I have done really well this week and I am going to keep that momentum going.

The daily emails from my friends on WW have been helping tremendously. It not only gives me motivation, but helps me with accountability, too. I need that.

This post was a stress vent, really, I guess. Getting the nervousness and confession out is good for my soul. :) Let's say a little prayer for tomorrow, now!

Tips and Treasures Part 1

The fact that I have been yo-yo dieting for years and years and years...and years and years, has led me to find some pretty awesome healthy eating/fitness tips. Don't let my weight and fact that I am, indeed a self proclaimed yo-yo dieter, fool you. These tips can and WILL work. That is, if you actually use them. See, that's my issue. I get sidetracked...by a boyfriend, work, social activities...whatever it may be, and I forgot all about my vow to never eat pizza or chocolate again. That's another big issue of mine: restriction. Enough of my issues, though. I will dedicate a post later on about my downfalls and ways I can overcome them. On to the tips!

My absolute favorite thing I do to start feeling better and getting healthier:
1. H2O baby! Guzzle it, sip it, down it, LOVE it! Benefits of drinking water? There are too many to list here, but these are my favorites. It helps in weight loss by flushing out the by-products of fat breakdown. (Ewww...you don't want to keep those in your body do you??) It helps relieve headaches due to hydration. It keeps you looking younger by moisturizing the skin and keeping it elastic. And, my favorite, is that it increases your metabolism by keeping you regular!
2. Oatmeal. I hate oatmeal. It sucks. It's gooey and the texture is just all wrong. Looks a little like puke to me, actually. (Go on, you know you want to have a big bowl of it right now). However, it really is a super food. It keeps you, ahem, regular with all of its fiber going on. Also, it helps to reduce cholesterol (may not seem important now, but it's kind of like the "preventative" wrinkle cream I use at night) through a specific fiber it sports called beta-glucen. Don't forget all the antixoidents, especially avenanthramides, which help to prevent heart disease and failure. Yes, I know I sound smart.Among other benefits of oatmeal are an an enhanced immune system, stabilizing blood sugar and preventing Type 2 daibetes. Ladies, listen up...fiber from whole grains helps prevent breast cancer. Let's face it, we need to do all we can to fight against this evil disease. Steel cut oats prepared on the stove or in a crock pot are the best way to serve them. The pre-packaged kind are okay, and can do in a pinch, but they normally have additives and sugar mixed in.

3. Never deprive yourself. Please, please, please never tell yourself that you can never have ice cream, or chocolate cake, or a big juicy cheeseburger again. You absolutely can. AND, you can lose weight. You just can't have one every day. Also, it's never a bad idea to find ways to lighten your favorite foods up. I figured out that a turkey burger with fat free cheese satisfies me just as much as a greasy full fat burger with cheese and mayo from my favorite restaurant would. Mix it up, folks!

Okay, that's enought tips for right now. I'll be back at a later date with more.

Grocery List

So, I went through several articles and blogs to find out exactly what I needed to shop for. The reason this is such a big deal for me is that whenever I buy a lot of fresh vegetables or meat, it all ends up going bad, because I don't feel like cooking or I just get too busy to eat at home.

I've really got to change this.

So, here I go again...on my own! Wait, that's song lyrics. So, here I go again...filling my buggy with all kinds of fun, cookable items. I even remembered the WW leader's advice: the majority of your time should be spent on the outer aisles of the store. Good point. (Fruits and veggies, dairy, meat).

So here it is, my Sunday grocery list:

Veggies: Carrots, eggplant, lettuce, ginger, green beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, white and red onions, garlic, cauliflower, broccoli

Fruits: Lemons, limes, cherries, grapes, bananas (Okay, I admit, I am not much of a fruit person and I would rather them not go to waste than to buy them just because they look pretty. I do buy frozen fruits, however, for smoothies. This counts. I promise.)

Meats: Ground turkey, shrimp, salmon, ground beef, chicken sausage

Dairy: Fat Free shredded cheese, feta cheese, fat free butter, Chobani yogurt (this is the best stuff ever!), fat free coffee creamer

Frozen items: Veggies (love the steamers and "for one" portion options), chicken breasts, Smartones, lean pockets, fruit for smoothies - mangos, peaches...oh, and I found these already packaged smoothie things, all you add is your base - I use fat free yogurt and ice. Yummmm!

Snacks: FF Pringles, almonds, FF saltines, granola bars (special K fruit crisps are the bomb!)

Condiments/spices: Salsa, soy sauce, mustard, basil leaves, thyme leaves, season all, salt, pepper

I got about 90% of what I needed. My bill was $146! Yikes! Hopefully this will be incentive enough to cook and eat healthy!

I like salads.

So, I’m struggling with impatience. I said it. And, I am apparently not very virtuous in that area, because I have none. Especially when it comes to losing weight. Just a bit of a rant.

Struggle: eating out. I don’t like salads unless they are saturated in dressing and have cheese on them. FAIL. I think I have to learn to like veggies. It’s acquired, right? Let’s make it a mantra…

I like salads.

I like salads.

I like salads.

I like salads.

I like saladsssssssssssss!!!!!!!!

The aftermath.

So, Maggie and I went to the meeting. It wasn't as terrifying as I thought it would be. While the number on the scale was a little more than I thought it would be, I didn't immediately get depressed.

The actual meeting was a good one. It was the first one after the new year, so there was a good crowd there and a lot of chatter about getting back on track and how it was okay if you had maintained or even gained because of some holiday splurge meals. We also learned about the new pointsplus program and how it worked. Being on the program before, I was pretty familiar, so I think I can get back in the groove pretty quick.

I also learned today that a couple of other friends want to start WW, also! I am so excited to have some friends to do it with. The motivation and accountability factors are almost as important as eating right and exercising.

Speaking of exercising. I don't like it.

The end.
