So, I went through several articles and blogs to find out exactly what I needed to shop for. The reason this is such a big deal for me is that whenever I buy a lot of fresh vegetables or meat, it all ends up going bad, because I don't feel like cooking or I just get too busy to eat at home.
I've really got to change this.
So, here I go again...on my own! Wait, that's song lyrics. So, here I go again...filling my buggy with all kinds of fun, cookable items. I even remembered the WW leader's advice: the majority of your time should be spent on the outer aisles of the store. Good point. (Fruits and veggies, dairy, meat).
So here it is, my Sunday grocery list:
Veggies: Carrots, eggplant, lettuce, ginger, green beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, white and red onions, garlic, cauliflower, broccoli
Fruits: Lemons, limes, cherries, grapes, bananas (Okay, I admit, I am not much of a fruit person and I would rather them not go to waste than to buy them just because they look pretty. I do buy frozen fruits, however, for smoothies. This counts. I promise.)
Meats: Ground turkey, shrimp, salmon, ground beef, chicken sausage
Dairy: Fat Free shredded cheese, feta cheese, fat free butter, Chobani yogurt (this is the best stuff ever!), fat free coffee creamer
Frozen items: Veggies (love the steamers and "for one" portion options), chicken breasts, Smartones, lean pockets, fruit for smoothies - mangos, peaches...oh, and I found these already packaged smoothie things, all you add is your base - I use fat free yogurt and ice. Yummmm!
Snacks: FF Pringles, almonds, FF saltines, granola bars (special K fruit crisps are the bomb!)
Condiments/spices: Salsa, soy sauce, mustard, basil leaves, thyme leaves, season all, salt, pepper
I got about 90% of what I needed. My bill was $146! Yikes! Hopefully this will be incentive enough to cook and eat healthy!
